“Sugidama” is a handmade round object made by Japanese cedar. Another name is “sakabayashi”. We can see this at the front of sake dealer especially long-established store. It has a role as s signboard that here is a sake dealer. The most important role about “Sugidama” is to show people about ready for selling sake. People recognize these things to see the Sugidama. Another important role is to show condition about Sake. At first, Sugidama is green, but day by day, it becomes blasted and its color turns brown. This phenomenon corresponds to condition of sake. Sugidama become getting darker, conditions of sake getting better and mellow. How to make is at first, prepare for wire and make round ball, and then pushing Japanese cedar in order not to make crevice. According to one theory, Sugidama was made for praying good harvest but in fact, it is not clear reason and definition. However, we can say that it is a beautiful Japanese traditional culture and I think we must keep this wonderful customs.
